Extinction Rebellion (XR) will be exhibiting at Summerhall during this year’s Festival Fringe, curating a month of visual art, films, documentaries and performances. Having come to public awareness during the International Week of Rebellion in April 2019, XR, along with other activists and campaigners, have finally broken through the wall of political denial to place climate change and species extinction at the forefront of our collective imagination.
Drawing upon the power of the arts to communicate this state of emergency, XR’s Summerhall exhibition offers a space for personal reflection and collective action. It includes a selection of iconic images drawn from XR actions to date, works of art made in response to a public call-out, and a programme of talks, film screenings, workshops and performances.
The overall aim of the exhibition is to invite visitors to engage with XR’s three demands: to tell the truth about climate change and the ecological emergency; to call on governments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2025 and to create a Citizens Assembly to oversee the process.
As an environmental and social justice movement, XR is first and foremost an act of imagination. We invite you to join us.
